There is seasonal fluctuation because the oceans are mainly in the southern hemisphere, but the trend can be judged from the highs and lows. (This shows the recalibrated data, after the data from certain instruments with a cool bias were removed. Initial Argo results showing strong cooling.)

What charges the Earth? The atmosphere is not a perfect insulator, and there is a small current between the electrosphere and the Earth. Negative charge leaks from the Earth and rises to the electrosphere. This is called the fair weather electric and it is about 2000 amperes (A) at any given moment. At this rate, the Earth's charge would dissipate in less than an hour, but, as it turns out, lightning recharges the Earth's surface by delivering negative charges back to the surface. (Source) Here we have an interesting situation – there is a measured drift of electric current to the electrosphere, but because of lightning this charge is returned to the Earth, so it never loses it’s charge. Get the impression that this description assumes the Earth to be an electrically isolated sphere in the vacuum of space? No wonder electricity isn’t a forcing in climate studies.

What is the Earth's charge? The Earth is electrically charged and acts as a spherical capacitor. The Earth has a net negative charge of about a million coulombs, while an equal and positive charge resides in the atmosphere. The electrical resistivity of the atmosphere decreases with height to an altitude of about 48 kilometres (km), where the resistivity becomes more-or-less constant. This region is known as the electrosphere. There is about a 300 000 volt (V) potential difference between the Earth's surface and the electrosphere, which gives an average electric field strength of about 6 V/metre (m) throughout the atmosphere. Near the surface, the fine-weather electric field strength is about 100 V/m.

If the United States quit emitting CO2 into the atmosphere tomorrow, the impact on global temperatures would be negligible, if even measurable. The reason for that outcome is that human CO2 represents a minuscule percentage of the total atmosphere. If human CO2 is approximately 13 PPM, then its atmospheric percentage is 0.0013%. The U.S. portion of the human CO2 may represent 0.00033%.

niversetoday does not acknowledge the electrical nature of the toroidal enity wrapped around Jupiter. Saturn has an electrical torus around it as well, so does the Sun. And the Earth has a toroidal donut, too. It's called the Van Allen belts. Electromagnetism is scalable, to at least 18 orders of magnitude and science hasn't reached a limit.

Very important: global hurricane activity includes the 80-90 tropical cyclones that develop around the world during a given calendar year, including the 12-15 that occur in the North Atlantic (Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean included). The heightened activity in the North Atlantic since 1995 is included in the data used to create this figure. As previously reported here and here at Climate Audit, and chronicled at my Florida State Global Hurricane Update page, both Northern Hemisphere and overall Global hurricane activity has continued to sink to levels not seen since the 1970s. Even more astounding, when the Southern Hemisphere hurricane data is analyzed to create a global value, we see that Global Hurricane Energy has sunk to 30-year lows, at the least. Since hurricane intensity and detection data is problematic as one goes back in time, when reporting and observing practices were different than today, it is possible that we underestimated global hurricane energy during the 1970s.

Italian architects Studiomobile has developed a Seawater vertical farm to be built in Dubai. There was not, is not, and will not be any "climate crisis" - or, if there is, the human contribution to it will be negligible. In the four years since Gore's movie was released, global surface temperatures have fallen at a rate equivalent to 6 degrees Celsius per century, enough to usher in an Ice Age if this exceptional and rapid rate of global cooling were to continue as far as 2100 The above graph shows the very rapid decline in global mean surface temperatures between January 2005 and December 2008, compared with the range of projections (shown as a pink region) made by the UN's climate panel, the IPCC, in its 2007 report. The shortfall between the IPCC's central projection and the real-world decline in temperatures is an astonishing 0.4 Celsius degrees (0.7 F) in only four years. This is hardly the profile of a "climate crisis" caused by "global warming".

The Ap Index continues to fall. While the January 2009 data is not out yet, the December 2008 data is and is an Ap value of 2 according to SWPC. While this number may be lower than other sources (Leif will fill us in I’m sure), I’m plotting it for consistency since I’ve been following the SWPC data set for well over a year now. I’ve pointed out several times the incident of the abrupt and sustained lowering of the Ap Index which occurred in October 2005. The sun has been running at a lower plateau of the Ap index after that event and has not recovered. It is an anomaly worth investigating. From the data provided by NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) you can see just how little Ap magnetic activity there has been since. Here’s a graph from December 2008 showing the step in October 2005:

Spiral galaxies are some what mundane but spiral sunspots? Further evidence that sunspots are actually electric discharge features associated with Birkeland currents at the Sun's photosphere. The source of those Birkelands? The solar plasma torus, while the Earth's equivalent are the Van Allen Belts, and it is thus likely that hurricanes and cyclones are also effects of Birkeland currents, into and out, of the earth's atmosphere. While the circular motion in the Earth's atmosphere is generally explained by the Coriolis effect, this effect is effectively what a mechanic would describe an electric motor as without using electricity. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap990204.html

"Plasma Fountain is in the North Pole of the Earth. This figure depicts the oxygen, helium, and hydrogen ions that gush into space from regions near the Earth's poles. The faint yellow gas shown above the north pole represents gas lost from Earth into space; the green gas is the aurora borealis-or plasma energy pouring back into the atmosphere." Discovery: "The plasma fountain was discovered using data from the Retarding Ion Mass Spectrometer instrument on the Dynamics Explorer spacecraft, in the 1980s. Recently, the SCIFER sounding rocket was launched into the plasma heating region of the fountain."
